Travels in South America

January 25, 2016

Tashi Delek from Ecuador!

After a brief visit to Taiwan, for the wedding of Tsering Tashi Gyalthang and Sharwei Tsai, Sisa and I traveled to Ecuador. We had a fantastic time in Taiwan and we would like to thank the bride and groom for including us in this special celebration. Taiwanese people are quite amazing and friendly!

It looks like I will be here busy performing at various locations. This month we will be in Cuenca to participate in the POLIFONICA World Music Festival from January 27-29. The remaining concerts will happen in and around Quito and then to Mexico in March. I'm happy to share that Quito has a vibrant art scene, and I have been meeting musicians who are quite dedicated and open-hearted.

As an ongoing recording project of traditional classical music of Lhasa, I recently uploaded "Nangma Gyagar Shar - In the Eastern Mountain" to the Tibetan Music Preservation website. Take a listen and please leave your comments about this song and others. If you have questions, please let me know.

It is quite exciting that back in upstate New York, the local Mountain Lake PBS created a documentary titled "Arts in Exile: Tibetan Treasures in Small Town America", about my relative Yangchen Dorjee and her family, and the local Tibetan artists, which just premiered in Plattsburgh. My music and interviews are part of the film and surprisingly, they used my image on the promotional poster of the film. I am quite humbled they did that. More on this at MountainLake.org.

If you have friends in Quito and Cuenca, please spread the word about my upcoming concerts. You can find all of our events in the Tour section of this website.

Blessings
